VPS.NET – the better way to host

After having some major trouble with my local hosting provider (Afrihost.com), I decided it was time for a change; I wanted to move all my hosting accounts into the cloud and all sources seemed to point towards VPS.NET as the go-to guys.

VPS.NET has quite an interesting way of providing hosting; when you sign up, you buy a number of nodes. A node is a unit of server resources, which includes 600 MHZ dedicated CPU, 376Mb RAM, 10Gb storage and 1Tb bandwidth. As you purchase more nodes, they start to get cheaper – and after buying a few nodes you now have quite a beastly VPS (Virtual Private Server) which you have root access to.

You can combine nodes into a single VPS, or you can create as many VPSs as you have nodes. One of the things that tickled my particular fancy is the fact that they have multiple data centres in the US, Europe and Asia. You have the choice of several operating systems to install on your VPSs, as well as optional backup services, managed support, cPanel, billing systems and PIN security. You can control your DNS through their very handy control panel, as well as start & stop VPSs, order more nodes and contact support. They really seem to have all their bases covered!

Their prices are very reasonable and their support is incredibly fast and knowledgeable. You may have noticed the vastly increased speed of this website since I’ve moved over to VPS.NET from SolarVPS (my previous US hosting provider).

I highly recommend that you check these guys out if you’re looking to start a blog, learn Linux system administration (one of my goals), host a major website or anything you want really! You’ve got root access, and as long as you agree to their very fair “Acceptable Use Policy” (no kiddy porn, y’hear) you’ll be OK.

Node prices start at $20 and decrease with future purposes and there are no contracts to sign so their’s no obligation.
